Sold:

  • $WISE - Wise ⬇️

My biggest portfolio move this month was exiting Wise $WISE. The Anti-Money Laundering investigations tied to its sponsor bank in the US plus now a new AML investigation in Europe create exactly the kind of regulatory overhang that can linger for years and gradually reshape a company's economics. More importantly for me, this was also a mission mismatch. If a business may have enabled financial crime through weak compliance, it no longer cleanly fits my portfolio's underlying goal of backing companies helping build a better future.

I also started a position in Iberdrola $IBE. It's not a high-octane growth story, but I like the fit: one of the world's largest renewable-heavy power fleets, a meaningful emission-free generation base, and a solid dividend yield. As I think more about the energy demands the world is likely to face over the coming years, I want some exposure to a large-scale, durable operator in the space.

I'm also currently thinking about how I'll structure my SpaceX $SPCX holding long-term within my own portfolio. My private-market stock was purchased at a $240B valuation, but the General Partner has now confirmed that it will vest to (taxable) cash in six months, so I'd like to start building out an equity position within my ISA in preparation for the forced sale. I want to be deliberate about building this gradually over a ~twelve month period rather than scrambling later, so started by making a bid for a 'starter position' allocation at IPO with a few of my brokers. In the end this only filled around a third of what I'd requested, but it's a foot in the door for a position, and I plan to add slowly over the coming months to eventually get to a 4% stake, replacing my forced sale at year end.

My highest-conviction ideas at current valuations remain Alphabet $GOOGL, Amazon $AMZN, Tesla $TSLA, MercadoLibre $MELI, CrowdStrike $CRWD, NVIDIA $NVDA, and Palo Alto Networks $PANW. That doesn't mean they're risk-free, but on a relative basis they still stand out to me as some of the most attractive places to allocate long-term capital right now.

More broadly, I'm still comfortable carrying a meaningful cash position while being selective. I'd rather wait for the right pitch than force capital into ideas that don't clearly clear the bar. With inflation now rising in the US, I'm also wary of potential base rate increases, which could put downward pressure on stocks. My current 21% cash allocation feels prudent and I'm not in any immediate hurry to redeploy this.
